Morton Signs New Four Year Deal
Volenti offers its congratulations to Bristol City’s James Morton who has signed a new contract at Ashton Gate. The highly-rated midfielder has committed his future to the club for the next four years with the option of a further 12 months.
Morton is currently out on loan at Forest Green Rovers, who sit fourth in the Sky Bet League 2 table, where he has registered three assists whilst picking up three man-of-the-match awards. The 20-year-old has progressed quickly following non-league loan spells at both Chippenham Town and Bath City, helping the latter reach the National League South play-offs last season by chipping in with one goal and twelve assists during a successful campaign.
The new deal supports claims that Morton will be a first-team regular with the Robins in the near future with his current loan spell set to aid his mental and physical attributes as he bids to move up the league pyramid.
“He is a very talented young player who has so much potential and I know he is very highly thought of,” said City chief executive officer Mark Ashton.
Morton added: “I’m really happy and over the moon to get it done.
“I feel like it’s well-earned; it took a lot of hard work to get here and I know I’ve got so much more work to do.
“The loans have been so good. I’ve obviously played at Bath City but playing in League Two now is a whole new level, it’s up a notch in all areas.
“It’s so much more professional. The lads, the manager, the coaching is up a notch, I’m learning a lot and long may that continue.
“Brian Tinnion and Lee Johnson are always in contact, telling me to let them know if I need anything. That shows how much they want to help you individually and it gives you that connection with the club, even though you’re out on loan.”
Everyone at Volenti is excited to watch Morton’s development and see where his career takes him.
